The Enfield 8000

The Enfield 8000: Isle of Wight’s Electric Pioneer designed and assembled at Somerton Works Cowes on the Isle of Wight in the early 1970s. Designed by John Ackroyd who later worked on the record breaking speed record with Thrust 2. The Enfield 8000 had a top speed of 48 mph and created during the 1973-74 fuel crisis when electric alternatives gained traction.

The car never gained mass appeal but now iconic and celebrated as a visionary step toward sustainable transport.
