Upper is the Sandown line viaduct that spanned Coppins Bridge at the foot of Snooks Hill, as you approached from the Ryde direction. The bottom of the High Street is seen just to the right of centre, with East Street, which ran into South Street, going off in the distance to the left.
Sid Sponheimer took this on a visit to the Island in the latter half of July 1965, from a rather unusual vantage point, as W17 'Seaview' left Newport, Ryde-bound, and headed its train around the curving viaduct towards the short tunnel beneath Fairlee Road.
