Civilian War Dead
National Roll Of Honour

Although not classed as a 'War Grave', Ada is still recorded by the Commonweath War Graves Commission as 'Civilian War Dead' as she died as a result of enemy action during World War 2.

Ada was born on the 29th of January 1886 in Arreton to William Edwin & Alice (nee PITT) BUTCHER. She married George Henry William DYER in 1911 at the United Methodist Church in Newport, & they lived at 92 Medina Avenue in Newport.

Ada died at home aged 56, from a sudden heart attack, on the 20th of May 1942, which was thought to have been hastened by the effects suffered during a German air raid of the 4th of May. It should be noted the CWGC Casualty Record shows the incorrect date of death.

Ada is also commemorated by the CWGC on the National Role of Honour in St. George's Chapel, Westminster Abbey in London.
