Ernest was born 1883 in Newport to Alfred Ernest & Sarah Ellen (nee BLOW) KNIGHT. The family lived a 4 East Street in Newport.

Ernest, aged 33, was listed as Missing Presumed Killed in Action on the 24th of April 1917. His body was never found or identified & so Ernest is commemorated by the Commission upon the Thiepval Memorial to The Missing, Somme France together with 72,306 of his First World War comrades.

Ernest is also remembered on the County & Newport Borough War Memorials.
