1st/6th Battalion
Hampshire Regiment

Sidney was born 1887 in Newport to William & Elizabeth (nee BLAKE) LOCKYER. 1917 in Fareham, Hampshire he married Sarah Louisa NORRIS & lived at 71 South Street in Newport.

Sidney, aged 34, was reported as drowned in the River Tigris on the 26th of May 1918. His final resting place remains unknown & so Sidney was commemorated by the Commission on the Basra Memorial in Iraq. However, due to the current pollical situation this memorial is unmaintainable at present & so these 40,632 soldiers are further commemorated in Roles of Honour held at the Commission’s HQ in Maidenhead, UK.
