Jacob was born 1891 in Newport to Fred & Ellen Rosa (nee BROADHURST) PEACH who were living at 2 Union Street in Newport around the time of Jacob’s death. The family had previously lived at 2 Hearn Street also in Newport.
Jacob, aged 23, was listed as Missing Presumed Killed in Action on the 31st of October 1914. His body was never found or identified & so Jacob is commemorated by the Commission upon the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial to The Missing in Belgium together with 54,584 of his missing First World War comrades.
Jacob had previously been awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal, the citation for which read: "for covering with his section the retirement of his troop from an exposed position. This was done without casualties to the remainder of the troop, but all of Corporal Peach's section, except himself, were killed or wounded".
Jacob is also remembered on the County & Newport Borough War Memorials. His brother Fred also fell in The Great War.
