Percy was born 1894 in Newport to Arthur William & Emma Sophia (nee JOLLIFFE) SPANNER who were living at 15 Clifford Street in Newport around the time of Percy’s death. The family had previously lived at 27 Elm Grove also in Newport.
Percy, aged 21, died as a result of gas poisoning on the 18th of June 1916 probably in one of the many Clearing Stations or Hospitals in the area. He now rests in the Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension beneath a Commission Headstone alongside 4,402 of his First World War comrades.
Percy is also remembered on the County & Newport Borough War Memorials.
