Hampshire Regiment

Cecil was born 1895 in Carisbrooke to George & Flora of ‘Kimberly’ Alvington Road, Carisbrooke.

Cecil died on the 23rd of September 1915 from typhoid whilst at sea being evacuated to Malta from Gallipoli. His body was landed when the ship docked at the Island.

He is buried beneath a recumbent Commission Headstone in Section B Row XIV Grave 4 of the Pieta Military Cemetery in Malta, bearing the family inscription “MERCY, PEACE”.

The earth is shallow on Malta & many joint or collective burials were made as graves had to be cut into the underlying rock. Cecil is buried in a Joint Grave with Private George DAVIDSON of the 1st/2nd Scottish Horse.

Cecil is also remembered on the Carisbrooke & IW Rifles War Memorials.
