Royal Field Atillery
Frank was born 1899 in Newport to Frank & Minnie WHEELER who were living at 25 New Street in Newport around the time of Frank’s death.
Frank, aged 16, was Killed in Action on the 30th of May 1916 & is buried somewhere within the Amara War Cemetery in Iraq alongside 4,620 of his First World War comrades. Because the exact location of his grave was lost during the course of the war, he was later commemorated within the cemetery on Panel 5A of a Screen Wall. However, due to the political situation, the cemetery is currently unmaintainable & so these soldiers are also commemorated by the Commission in the Iraq Roles of Honour at their HQ in Maidenhead, UK.
Frank is also remembered on the County & Newport Borough War Memorials.
