Ewart was born 1896 in Gatcombe to George & Beatrice Helina (nee MARTIN) WILLSTEED who were living at Beech Farm, Colmer, Alton in Hampshire around the time of Ewart’s death. In 1911 the family were living at Top Barn, Rowbridge in Carisbrooke.

Ewart, aged 20, died in Aldershot on the 13th of June 1917 from unspecified causes. Ewart had been a prisoner of the Turks after being captured at the Battle of Kut, with the 1st/5th Hampshire Howitzer Battery, but he was later part of a prisoner exchange & brought back to the UK via a hospital in Bombay. The conditions in the prison camp were extreme & these are likely to have caused his untimely death. Ewart is buried in the Aldershot Military Cemetery beneath a Commission Headstone bearing the Family Inscription “A FALLEN HERO OF KUT” chosen by his mother.

Ewart is also remembered on the County & Carisbrooke & War Memorials.
